MaGi emerged as a young artist creating jewelry and crafts. But her creative side required other forms of expression and she soon discovered that painting, hand built pottery and free form sculpture fulfilled this need.
MaGi studied art in Ottawa, Ontario and attended several workshops and courses taught by wonderful Canadian and American artists. Her artistic training includes; cartooning, drawing, mixed media, painting, pottery, print making, Sumi-e, and wabi-sabi. Her tools of the trade are: acrylic, charcoal, collage, ink, watercolor, and watercolor pencil plus brushes, feathers, fingers, palette knife, rope, stamping, tree leaves and needles, wire and anything else that will create an interesting mark.
Her paintings gradually transformed from landscapes to abstracts. Today her paintings are contemporary abstracts, mostly mixed media and frequently non-representative. Her artistic inspiration comes from nature and the change of seasons, music, travel and her observation of people and cultures.
Although all the seasons provide inspiration, winter and the Holiday Season is one of her favorite times of the year. MaGi also creates Christmas and Holiday Wish cards from her paintings.
Artist statement
Art allows me to escape and be creative without following all those rules.
I am inspired by what surrounds me. My mind re-interprets people, conversations, nature, seasons, music and travel into the art I create.
I am an intuitive artist, letting my imagination and sensations guide me.
What a wonderful sense of freedom art brings me!
Art is my escapade!
Inspiration
Un mot ou une image enflamme mon imagination.
Parfois il ne s’agit que d’un mot dans une conversation pour déclencher une foule d’image dans mes pensées.
Et voilà, le besoin de créer se fait sentir de nouveau.
L’inspiration.
